This intensive, hands-on Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) training program, delivered offsite in Japan at an expert level, equips participants with the knowledge and skills necessary to conduct comprehensive LCA studies. The program covers the fundamental principles of LCA, the ISO 14040/44 standards, and advanced techniques for data collection, modeling, interpretation, and communication of results.

Through a blend of theoretical instruction, practical case studies, and hands-on exercises, participants will gain proficiency in applying LCA methodology to real-world scenarios, from product development and eco-design to sustainability assessments.

This training program is designed to take participants with a basic understanding of environmental science to an advanced level of LCA expertise.

This program emphasizes practical application and utilizes a blended learning approach to maximize knowledge retention. Participants will learn to apply LCA principles. The training also delves into advanced topics such as consequential LCA, uncertainty analysis, and scenario development, preparing participants to tackle complex LCA challenges.

The training culminates in a comprehensive understanding of effectively communicating LCA results to diverse audiences, enabling them to make informed decisions about sustainability improvements.

Outcomes

Upon completion of this training program, participants will be able to:

  • Understand and apply the principles and framework of LCA as defined by ISO 14040/44.
  • Conduct a complete LCA study, from goal and scope definition to interpretation and reporting of results.
  • Collect and manage life cycle inventory (LCI) data, including supply chain data.
  • Model environmental impacts using various LCIA methods.
  • Perform sensitivity analysis, uncertainty analysis, and scenario development.
  • Interpret LCA results and communicate them effectively to stakeholders.
  • Apply LCA to multiple applications, such as product development, eco-design, and policy analysis.
  • Understand the different types of LCA, including attributional and consequential LCA.

Prerequisites

    • Participants are required to have a basic understanding of environmental sciences, environmental engineering, or sustainability. No prior knowledge of Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) is required.

Duration

    • The training program will be conducted over five business days, from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm Japan time.

Examinations and Certification

    • Certification is optional and requires an additional fee. Participants who wish to obtain certification will be required to take an examination. The examination is a pass/fail format, and two attempts are allowed. The passing score is 50%.
