From October 21 to October 25, 2024, DEISO successfully conducted a comprehensive 3-in-1 training program titled the “Lead GHG Verifier Professional Training Program” at its Tokyo location for Saudi Aramco. This program was designed to provide an in-depth understanding of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions calculation, verification, and reporting, tailored to a group of professionals from Aramco.
The training spanned five business days and covered three major learning modules:
- GHG Emissions Calculation (Scopes 1-3): Trainees learned how to accurately calculate GHG emissions across all three scopes (direct emissions, indirect emissions from energy, and other indirect emissions). This module focused on GHG accounting, providing participants with the necessary tools to understand and calculate emissions for various industries fully.
- GHG Verification: This segment of the training emphasized the importance of verifying GHG data to ensure accuracy and compliance with international standards. Trainees were taught the best practices for conducting thorough verification processes.
- GHG Reporting: The final module focused on how to report GHG emissions in compliance with global standards, including the ISO 14064 (Parts 1-3) guidelines. Trainees were introduced to the GHG Scope 3 Calculator provided by the GHG Protocol organization, a vital tool for calculating emissions from indirect sources.
Real-World Case Studies
To ensure participants could apply their learning in real-world scenarios, the training included three case studies from diverse industries:
- Oil and Gas Industry: A detailed study on GHG emissions from the oil and gas sector.
- Chemical Industry: A focus on methanol production and its associated emissions.
- Electronics Industry: A case study on smartphone manufacturing, highlighting the challenges of calculating emissions in the electronics sector.
Throughout the program, trainees practiced GHG Scope 1-3 calculations using Excel, applying their knowledge to these case studies and gaining hands-on experience.
A Certified Training Program
This certified training program not only equipped participants with the skills to perform GHG calculations, verification, and reporting but also provided them with a solid understanding of the ISO 14064 standards. By the end of the program, trainees were well-prepared to lead GHG verification processes within their respective organizations, ensuring compliance with international environmental regulations.
